Brief Description of challenge faced

The Residents Association of Skyline Spectra was incurring monthly electricity bill upwards of Rs 50,000 and had approached us with the requirement of installation of rooftop solar on their terrace area to reduce the electricity bill to the limit of fixed charges to be paid to KSEB.

The site had multiple complexities. The parapet height of the terrace was in the range of 4m-6m. There were several shadow causing structures, such as the lift room, on the roof. The building was 21 floor high and the terrace area used to experience windspeed in excess of 100kmph.

The client needed the rooftop solar system to function at maximum efficiency and required the structure to be shadow free area, and to withstand windspeed in excess of 150kmph

SOLX Proposal & Execution mitigating the challenge

Solx had detailed discussions with site representative and had multiple visits to the site to understand the requirements of the client. Solx devised an optimal solution to address all the concerns raised.

The base structure was designed as an elevated structure, to be at an optimum height of 4m from the terrace, so as to ensure that the panel installed stays above the parapet, and will be shadow free. The height was not increased further as the high windspeed would destabilise the structure. The structure layout was designed strategically to ensure that no panel falls in the area adjacent to shadow inducing structure. In order to ensure that the structure withstands strongest of winds, Stadd testing of the structure design was done at rated windspeed of 150kmph. The test results were further vetted by an independent consultant.

The installation was completed as per timeline committed and the integration to grid was completed through coordination with KSEB officials. The system was commissioned and is working fine till date.

Customer was extremely happy with the outcome, as we had fulfilled their requirements. The project was inaugurated by the Hon MLA Ms Uma Thomas. Solx was felicitated by the Association for the workmanship and support. The customer also further engaged Solx to install an EV Charging Sation at their premises, with our own proprietary monitoring software.
